About Us

Our Faculty members lead world-class research programs in a wide variety of disciplines including: Astrophysics, Biophysics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Condensed Matter, and Particle Physics.

We have international collaborations in programs such as the Chooz and KamLAND neutrino oscillation experiments, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, the Hayden Planetarium (NYC), the Universities of Chicago and Palermo, Northwestern, and the Albert Einstein Medical School.

The Drexel University Department of Physics is a leader in computational physics. We currently have three distributed cluster systems (Beowulfs), two specialized GRAvity Pipeline Engines (GRAPEs), shared memory machines, and a public Linux computer cluster.

Experimental facilities include an Atomic Force Microscope and laboratories for low temperature physics, pulsed laser biophysics, protein assembly, and particle physics detector development.

Some Grad Students

The Department of Physics is very involved with outreach activities. The Kaczmarczik Lecture is a public event whereby high school students and members of the community are invited to hear outstanding science lectures. The Drexel Chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) regularly conducts outreach demonstrations in elementary and high schools.

Here you can find a calendar of upcoming events, scheduled colloquia, and detailed information on other important meetings and events.

We invite you to explore our website to discover for yourself how the study of physics can be fascinating, challenging, and rewarding.

Mission Statement

To expand our understanding of the physical universe through basic and applied research and prepare students of all disciplines for technical excellence and thoughtful citizenship through innovative instruction and engagement in the process of discovery.
